The global food system is based on large-scale and industrial production of as much food as possible. Having said that, there is an enormous amount of food wasted in our part of the world, obesity and a surge in food-related illness such as diabetes. The transportation of food and related raw materials all over the world results in a direct relationship between our daily menu and the problems related to water, energy and the environment.
Ifund envisages a food system that is largely regionally organised, where quality holds the upper hand and in which the consumer is once again brought into direct contact with the producer. The most significant challenge is likely to be that of adapting our menu. Meat production makes a substantial impact on land, water and energy. Ifund seeks solutions to render both production and consumption more sustainable, more local and more community based.
